When did you realise you were on the right path in your career as an SEO expert?
It was probably when we got our first client and managed to achieve results for them. We publicly started offering SEO services for the first time in February 2005, and our first client came six months later. It was a car rental company from Varna.
Until then, I had only worked on my websites and wasn't sure if SEO could be offered as a service to clients. But right after the first client came the second one, and the concept quickly proved itself. Ironically, after all these years, I mainly work on my own projects.
Which SEO success have you celebrated the most and why?
Honestly, I can’t think of a specific win. Maybe the SEO competition for the Jabse search engine years ago, which we won.
Over the years, we’ve worked on some very competitive niches and felt great when we managed to push clients to the top rankings. However, SEO is so dynamic that you never celebrate too much—because the next day, the results might change.
What is the biggest SEO mistake you often see businesses making?
Right now, I’d say the biggest SEO mistake is changing website URLs—especially for well-established businesses with high-ranking pages. It often happens during website updates, but in most cases, it’s a bad idea.
Even if old URLs are redirected, behavioural signals accumulated on them don’t carry over, leading to ranking drops. Recovery can take months, and it’s never 100% complete. That’s why this remains the biggest mistake at the moment.
Are there any free SEO tools you recommend for beginners?
Google Search Console is a great free tool, as well as Bing Webmaster Tools—especially the latter, which provides valuable insights, including backlink data.
Microsoft Clarity is another useful free tool for tracking user behavior and generating heatmaps.
Overall, the best SEO tool is Google itself. Its autocomplete suggestions and related searches are often enough to conduct keyword research for small niches.
What should businesses keep in mind when optimising videos to boost their online presence?
When someone searches for a service or business, they're looking for trust signals. Your video needs to prove quickly that you are a legitimate and credible business.
Showcase your actual work, even if it seems technical or unexciting. Film your machines, full warehouses, offices—anything demonstrating you are a real company providing services. This will set you apart from generic promotional videos.
And of course, create an attention-grabbing title. Always host the video on your own website as well, because videos tend to disappear from platforms over time.
